At such prices, you need to take on big volumes of work and rent it, otherwise, the excavator won't pay for itself. And in principle, it is mainly suitable for specific tasks.

I have the EX120 and mainly use it for digging trenches and foundations. It's a decent machine, digging up to 1.20 meters. It works without any problems, fast and reliable Japanese equipment.

I found a Caterpillar 303SR mini excavator on a construction equipment sale. What caught my attention was that it was being sold in good condition. The machine has a Mitsubishi engine. After the first time working with the mini excavator, I was happy with everything. Despite being a used machine, the boom-arm bucket does not wobble. The seals on the machine do not leak. The rubber tracks have a good grip, even on dry ground.

The pins and hydraulics break quickly, and money spent on maintenance is wasted. It's better to use proper excavators instead of these small, useless ones. They're only good for digging potatoes.

Mini excavator Takeuchi TB016

The Takeuchi TB016 is a really small machine, weighing only 1.6 tons. And that's its only advantage. When it comes to maintenance and repairs, the Japanese are quite expensive, and it often broke down even with not too heavy workloads. In general, Takeuchi machines seem to be one of the least repair-friendly excavators. At least, messing around with it was not enjoyable, and we had to do it often because problems arose with the "structure" and with the hydraulics and hydraulic cylinders. The rotating platform started to wobble, and there were many other minor issues that I can't remember. In short, this excavator was a complete disappointment for a not insignificant amount of money.

In my opinion, a wheel full-drive swing excavator is better than a tracked mini Komatsu. In terms of productivity, it can do the job for the same price, but in just one shift. Moreover, the quality of work will be much better compared to the excavator. The result is saving the most valuable thing - time.

I leased the JCB 8055. It's a good machine - maneuverable, fuel-efficient, and easy to transport on a trailer. However, last winter there was a problem with the gearbox. When shifting from first to second, it would sometimes skip to third gear. It was impossible to shift from third to fourth altogether. I called a mechanic who found that the issue was with the wires at the switch: the signal wire was shorted to the third gear wire. After fixing this minor breakdown, there were no other issues.

Took this mini-excavator (needed to clear a plot of cobblestones) for rent. It coped excellently, works very quickly, did not expect such speed from it.

We rented the Caterpillar 305.5E for work on a small site - we were laying cable in a new residential area. The machine is maneuverable and has a small turning radius. The controls are simple, and the productivity is high. We finished the job earlier than anticipated. However, I wouldn't buy such a mini excavator. It costs as much as a large excavator.

I purchased a JCB 8030 mini-excavator in Poland. The previous owner had put in over 2300 hours of work on this machine. I bought the tractor for all-season use. When I operated the excavator in freezing temperatures, a problem immediately arose – air was getting into the hydraulic system. As a result, an unpleasant squeaking sound emerged, and the power was reduced. Prior to this, I had replaced the filter and filled it with high-quality oil. During operation, I relied on the services of a service center. The repair cost me a significant amount.
