CAT 320 — a Review of an Excavator

American handler CAT 320 is among the most innovative machinery pieces worldwide. It is equipped with the CAT GRADE 2D system, which helps the operator to perform all the tasks precisely following specified slopes and heights.

The Grade Assist system automates bucket leveling, depth and grade control for simplified operation and increased accuracy.

The Payload system helps track material weight in a bucket in real time to optimize the loading of trucks and increase performance.

 Advantages:

  • Suitable for trenching, bulk material loading, building demolition, site leveling, and many other applications;
  • Hydraulic hammers, rippers, uprooters and other attachments expand its capabilities and make the excavator more versatile;
  • Withstands high loads and harsh operating conditions, ensuring long service life;
  • The ergonomic cabin has a comfortable seat, good visibility, and control panel in an accessible place;
  • AC, heating, and sound system provide the comfort of the operator during performance;
  • A rearview camera, rollover warning system, and ROPS/FOPS for operator protection are integrated;
  • Compliance with environmental standards with low emissions of harmful substances. The excavator obtained also functions to increase fuel efficiency.

Description of the Main Modifications of the CAT 320 Excavator

The CAT 320 excavators product line consists of several modifications for various purposes.

320 GC is a basic model with a 130 hp Cat C4.4 ACERT engine, standard 1.5 m³ bucket, hydrostatic transmission and four-wheel drive. Designed for general construction and earthmoving work.

320 GX is a modification equipped with an engine Cat C4.4 ACERT of 139 hp, a standard bucket of 1.5 m³, and hydrostatic transmission with a 4-wheel drive. Additionally, it is equipped with functions like a Cat GRADE 2D system, a rearview camera, and a rollover warning system. It suits complex applications requiring high precision and safety.

320 DL is a long-arm version with a 157 hp Cat C7.1 ACERT engine, standard 1.8 m³ bucket, hydrostatic transmission, and four-wheel drive. Provides greater digging depth and dumping height, making it ideal for trenching and loading into tall trucks.

320 EL is a long boom version equipped with a Cat C7.1 ACERT engine of 157 hp, standard 1.8 m³ bucket, hydrostatic transmission, and all-wheel drive. Designed for work with a large reach, such as dismantling buildings, clearing sites and loading bulk materials at a great distance from them.

CAT 326 is a modification equipped with a more powerful engine Cat C7.1 ACERT of 175 hp. It has a standard bucket of 1.8 m³, hydrostatic transmission, and all-wheel drive. These features provide the maximum performance of the excavator and suit the most complex tasks.
